  • Tailgating
  • Eating while driving
  • No use of turn signals
  • Applying makeup while driving
  • Speeding
  • Texting and driving
  • Driving slow in the passing lane

These are all examples of bad driving habits, and put you at risk of getting into a car or truck accident!

Distracted Summer Driving

Did you know that the summer months, when teens are on vacation, have come to be known as the “100 deadliest days”!?  This is because 7 out of 10 automobile accidents occurring between Memorial and Labor Day are fatal.

What’s the Damage?

Being distracted by your phone while driving is such a big problem because we think we can do it. In our minds, we feel perfectly capable of replying to a text while driving on the road. We feel safe in our ability to multitask. However, we need to understand the gravity of the risk we take when responding to a text.

In 2015, 49% of adults admitted to texting while driving, and 98% of them knew it was an unsafe habit. Texting and driving is a bad habit that kills 9 people every day in America. That means everyday nine people are waking up for the last time. Nine deaths that could have been avoided by simply waiting to reply to a text or letting it go to voicemail. It is easy to feel safe under the false security of, “that won’t happen to me.”

Spread Awareness – Take the Pledge

The National Safety Council wants us to be attentive drivers. Asking all of us to sign a pledge to not drive distracted in anyway, dedicated to someone you love. The pledge doesn’t just mean texting, it includes everything: Bluetooth, checking emails, using voice-to-text, eating, updating social media, and selfies.  Basically anything that can distract you from driving is .

Distracted driving or bad driving is an issue we all know about, yet we still catch ourselves reaching for that vibrating phone on the drive home. The pledge is designed to remind you that it’s not just your own life that you put at risk of a car accident, but the lives of loved ones and other motorists around you.
