Labor Fest SA 2016
Labor Day weekend is upon us and that means we have an opportunity for some R&R rest and relaxation with friends and family. If you haven’t made plans for this weekend there is a musical festival being held this weekend at Hemis Fair Park and the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center. The festival is a 3-day multicultural music and arts festival called the Labor Fest SA.
Events Free to the Public
The Health and Career Expo (Saturday only) 9am-2pm
The health fair is free to the public and is aimed at educating the community on how to better handle their health related issues. Those who attend will be able to meet with a health care industry professional and gain information to take home with them in order to further educate themselves. The health fair will include free sports physicals, free blood pressure checks, free mammograms and free immunizations to the San Antonio community.
The career expo is a benefit to any job seekers out there who want to survey their options. Labor Fest invited some of San Antonio’s employers to come in and interact with the community. The career fair will have employers from a variety of industries from healthcare to energy and gas. It is a great opportunity to meet directly with employers without the pressure of a formal job interview.
Faith Fest – S.W.E.E.P (Sunday only) 10am-12pm
Community unity through prayer, peace, and empowerment via song. S.W.E.E.P will be kicking off the musical festivities Sunday morning and it is an opportunity for the people of San Antonio to celebrate Labor Day through song, dance, and prayer.
Paid Events
Labor Fest Soul Funk Explosion (Saturday and Sunday) 4pm-11pm
Held at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, the Bigger and Better Soul Funk Explosion will feature electrifying musical talents from artist like The O’Jays, Rickey Smiley, Betty Wright and many more. Considered to be the highlight event of the festival. Seems like the place to be if you enjoy great music and a beat you can dance to.
Carnival/Fair (All weekend)
The carnival and fair will be free to the public on Friday, as part of community appreciation day, and admission tickets will be sold for the rest of the weekend. Children under 12 will be granted free admission all weekend long. Friday, admission will be free but Labor Fest will be asking everyone to donate a canned good for charity.
The carnival will have food, games, rides, giveaways, and live music performing all weekend long! A great weekend event for the whole family!
Tickets and detailed scheduled of the Labor Fest can be found on their website.
Remember to Drink Responsibly
Last year, 21 people were killed and 42 were seriously injured in over 330 drunk driver related crashes over Labor Day weekend in Texas, according to the Texas Department of Transportation. This year we like to remind you to please drink responsibly over the long weekend to bring that tragic static down. Texas law enforcement will be on the lookout for suspected drunk drivers and a DUI can really ruin a celebration. Remember, drive sober or get pulled over.
